Do not add lime blindly.
Some soils are acidic and benefit from lime, but others do not, and over-liming can create new problems by tying up trace elements and shifting biology in the wrong direction.
A sensible approach is:
- do a soil test if possible
- check pH in context rather than as the only metric
- observe plant performance
- look at likely soil history and geology
- trial small areas before broad application
Lime can help where acidity is genuinely limiting growth, but it is not a universal answer. Biology, organic matter, drainage, and mineral balance all matter too.
