There is no clean magic number.
A small, well-run, intensively planted site with reliable water, good soil, nearby customers, and disciplined crop planning can outperform a much larger block that is poorly organised.
What matters most is:
- access to water
- healthy soil
- crop selection
- succession planning
- harvest efficiency
- nearby markets or direct customers
- your own stamina and systems
For many people, the better question is not “How much land do I need?” but **“How much complexity can I manage well?”**
A smart path is to begin with a modest area, trial a small number of crops, measure yields honestly, and only expand once the system is actually working.
