Even when everyone has good intentions, vague arrangements often go sour.
At minimum, talk through and write down:
- who can access the land and when
- what areas are included
- water access and costs
- use of tools, sheds, fencing, or infrastructure
- what can be planted
- whether animals are involved
- who owns improvements
- how produce or income is shared, if at all
- how long the arrangement lasts
- how either party can end it fairly
It does not need to be legalistic to be useful. A simple written agreement can protect trust rather than undermine it.
The key principle is this: **clarity is kinder than assumption.**
